The Javanicus Journal of Advanced Animal Sciences (JJAAS) is dedicated to publishing high-quality research in the shortest possible time. Achieving this goal relies on the valuable contributions of our reviewers throughout the peer-review process. The role of reviewers is essential to academic excellence, and we deeply appreciate your commitment to reviewing manuscripts. By accepting an invitation to review, you are undertaking a responsibility, and the following guidelines will help you in performing your role effectively.

Assignment of Articles

Articles will be assigned to reviewers based on their expertise and research field.

Ethical Guidelines for Manuscript Review

  1. Exploitation of Manuscripts Under Review: Reviewers are prohibited from citing or using any information from the manuscript before it is published. This includes using the manuscript’s content for personal research purposes.
  2. Objectivity and Attitude: Reviewers should approach manuscripts with a positive, impartial attitude, aiming to support the author in improving the manuscript and ensuring clear, accurate scientific communication.
  3. Impartial Review: If a reviewer is unable to assess the manuscript impartially, it should be returned to the editor immediately.
  4. Editorial Decision: While the editor values reviewers’ recommendations, the final editorial decision may not always align with every suggestion provided, as decisions are made based on multiple evaluations.
  5. Timely Completion: Reviewers are asked to complete their reviews within two weeks. If unable to meet this deadline, the editor should be informed as soon as possible.
  6. Direct Communication with Authors: Reviewers are not allowed to engage directly with authors regarding the manuscript. Any concerns should be communicated with the Editor-in-Chief.
  7. Recommendations on Acceptability: Reviewers should not directly comment on the acceptability of a paper in their feedback to the author but should provide their recommendations to the editor using the provided form.
  8. Grammar Corrections: While reviewers are not required to correct grammatical mistakes, any helpful suggestions in this area are appreciated.

Technical Review Template

When reviewing a manuscript, it is essential to assess the scientific reliability of the article and whether its objectives are clearly met. Reviewers should ensure that the title accurately reflects the content of the article and that the research is justified with clear reasoning for its necessity and relevance. The manuscript should be well-organized, with appropriate headings that guide the reader through the content logically and coherently. Additionally, the use of standard research methods should be evaluated, ensuring that the study’s methodology is sound and replicable. It is also crucial to assess how clearly the research questions are addressed, ensuring that the study stays focused and directly answers the stated objectives.

Furthermore, the references cited should be relevant, up-to-date, and properly integrated into the discussion. Reviewers should ensure the manuscript adheres to international ethical guidelines, particularly when research involves humans or animals. The writing style should be clear and concise, with logical flow, and free from grammatical errors. Figures and tables included in the manuscript should be appropriate and clearly labeled, and their legends should provide sufficient context to understand the data presented. By reviewing these aspects, reviewers contribute to the overall quality and integrity of the manuscript, ensuring it meets the standards of academic excellence.

Language and Composition

Manuscripts should be written in clear, concise, and active English, free of grammatical and linguistic errors. All pages must be numbered sequentially. Authors should ensure professional assistance for any necessary corrections before submitting revised versions for publication.

Research Involving Humans and Animals

Research must comply with the highest international ethical standards. Guidelines for the use of animals and humans in research are available on the journal's website.

Reviewer Responsibilities

Confidentiality: Reviewers must maintain confidentiality regarding the manuscript and its contents. They should not retain or copy the manuscript in any form. Information in the manuscript must not be used for personal research unless it has been made publicly available through other means (e.g., conference presentations, abstracts).

Objectivity and Non-communication with Authors: Reviewers should not communicate directly with authors. If an author attempts to communicate with a reviewer, the reviewer should notify the editor.

Conflict of Interest: Reviewers should disclose any conflicts of interest (e.g., financial, institutional, or collaborative relationships) to the editor and may withdraw from reviewing if necessary.

Contribution to Editorial Decision-Making: Reviewers play a critical role in improving the quality of the manuscript by providing an objective and efficient review. If a reviewer feels unqualified to evaluate the manuscript, they should decline to review and inform the editor.

Review Process: Reviews should focus on the quality and significance of the research, the thoroughness of the methodology, the logical interpretation of results, and clarity in communication. Reviewers should offer constructive suggestions for revision and highlight areas needing further references if necessary.

Professionalism: Reviewers should communicate their feedback tactfully. Personal attacks on authors or harsh language are unacceptable. Reviewers should aim to provide helpful, professional commentary.

If a reviewer cannot assess a manuscript due to lack of expertise, the manuscript should be returned promptly without review, with an explanation to the editor.
